The Red Granny Smith variety ... entirely unlike the normal Granny Smith in flavour .. in fact, breathtakingly uninteresting, even direct from the tree. (And I *love* a good (green) granny smith).   My new favourite variety of apple - the Braddick Nonpareil (Scotland) - impossible to get anywhere on the planet, most probably, except from this one farm in Kent in the UK. {sigh}   An enormous apple - Castle Major variety.   A crab apple - Malus 'White Star' - the fruits are tiny, maybe 10-15 mm across.   A crab apple - Malus 'White Star' - the fruits are tiny, maybe 10-15 mm across.   A new(ish) apple orchard being slowly planted out - on the right are some closely planted types - presumably on ultra-dwarfing rootstock. Normally they plant pairs of varieties at about 3m spacing, on 3m wide rows.  A newly (ish) planted section for apples - usually they plant out at 3 metres between plants, 3 metres between rows - they've gone for about 1 metre spacing between the trees here, so perhaps M27 rootstock?
