The approach side of the Three Gorges Dam.   Somewhere up the Yangtze.   Somewhere up the Yangtze from Yi chang, on the way to Qong xing I think.   Somewhere up the Yangtze from Yichang, on the way to Qongxing I think.   Somewhere up the Yangtze from Yichang, on the way to Qongxing I think.  The river was already about 50 metres higher than its original level, due to the (at the time still incomplete) Three Gorges Dam. This shows how much more they expect it to rise once the dam is / was completed. Pretty much every village along the river had been yoinked up-hill by more than a hundred metres - official estimates suggest this meant relocating around 20 million people, but locals told us it was closer to 60 million. Only in china. And yes, we walked up all those flippin' stairs. Oh my. To avoid walking back down again, we instead opted for a 16-hour taxi trip ... which was Fun in a whole different way.
